Healthy Spooktacular Halloween Snacks

Friday, October 16, 2015

Happy Friday y'all!

Is it just me or is October going by so quickly? Halloween is only two weekends away! Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays ever since I was a child because you basically have a free ticket to eat all the candy you want guilt free. Well... it used to be guilt free. Now that Chris and I are almost real adults, we are trying to stay healthy this Halloween (does bourbon and beer count?).

So I'm sharing with y'all two easy and healthy spooktacular Halloween snacks that is both adult and kid friendly: Jack-O-Lantern Nuts Cup and Spooky Witches' Fingers.

Healthy Spooktacular Halloween Snacks

  • Jack-O-Lantern Nuts Cup

I love carved pumpkins, but I hate carving them. It is just a lot work! Carving oranges, on the other hand, is so quick and easy!
  1. Cut off the top of an orange.
  2. Use a small spoon to scoop out the flesh (save them to make freshly squeezed orange juice!).
  3. Draw a jack-o'-lantern face and cut it out with a small craft knife.
  4. Pat the interior dry with a paper towel and fill it up with your favorite nut mix. My current favorite is a handful each of almonds, cashews and macadamia nuts. Yum!

  • Spooky Witches' Fingers

  1. Halved asparagus and drizzle them with olive oil. Arranged them onto a baking sheet.
  2. Bake at 400 F for 20 minutes.
  3. Let it cool slightly before dipping each tip into your favorite hummus. My favorite is Lilly's Classic Hummus, which is organic and gluten free.

Favorite Storage Idea: Box Seat

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

I might have a teensy tiny hoarding problem. You know, just some dog toys because I am one of those people that need to buy two dog toys (one for each dog) every time I go to Target. And some books, because who borrows from the library nowadays anyway? And speaking of books, I also have the pile of magazines that keeps growing. Oh wait, I can't forget about my shoes, my handbags, my workout clothes...

Okay, fine! I'm a hoarder.

So when I have with an overabundance of material goods and surprise visitors, a "sick" day for cleaning is usually required. But I found a new solution - stuff everything into a box seat and pray nobody peeks!

Enter the Poppin Box Seat from The Container Store. It is:

  • A cushioned seat and a storage container!
  • Collapsible and Portable
  • Strong enough to hold up to 275 lbs
  • Comes in adorable colors such as my pink one below as well as navy, red, orange and more
  • Perfect for stuffing it with anything and everything when you have impromptu visitors

The box seat is both a functional and decorative tool. This one is currently storing a stack of old textbooks that I haven't been able to throw out yet. I love how it adds a pop of pink into my coastal theme (navy and white) living room.

I love it so much that I bought a second one in a neutral color for the Master Bedroom. This one is currently housing my beach towels and swimsuits.
